Charleston, SC Named the No. 1 City in the South
It’s official. Charleston has once again been named the No. 1 City in the South by readers of Southern Living Magazine in the publication’s 2026 South’s Best Awards. Even more impressive? This marks the 10th consecutive year Charleston has earned the top spot.
For locals, this recognition probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise. From its historic downtown streets and world-class dining to coastal living, beautiful beaches, and the unmistakable charm of the Lowcountry, Charleston continues to attract people from across the country seeking a better lifestyle and a stronger sense of community.
The Charleston region was recognized for its:
- Historic charm and architecture
- Award-winning food scene
- Coastal lifestyle and waterfront views
- Walkable neighborhoods
- Southern hospitality and culture
And it’s not just Charleston itself gaining national attention. Communities throughout the Lowcountry, including Mount Pleasant, Johns Island, Daniel Island, Sullivan’s Island, Isle of Palms, Kiawah Island, and Summerville, continue to see strong interest from buyers relocating to the area.
At Seignious and Smith, we see firsthand why so many people are choosing to call Charleston home. Whether buyers are searching for historic homes downtown, waterfront properties, golf course communities, or quieter Lowcountry living outside the city, Charleston offers a lifestyle that’s difficult to replicate anywhere else in the South.
