February Happenings in Charleston
February in Charleston always feels like a little pause between seasons. The holiday rush is behind us, the city feels a touch quieter (in the best way), and we’re all soaking up those crisp winter days while secretly dreaming of spring azaleas and warmer evenings on the porch.
Even though it’s still technically winter, Charleston doesn’t slow down, and February is packed with some of the best events of the year. Between the Southeastern Wildlife Expo (SEWE), Valentine’s Day plans, theatre performances, live music, and even hockey games, there’s no shortage of things to do around the Lowcountry this month.
Whether you’re a longtime local or just visiting, here are a few highlights to get excited about, and a full February calendar below so you don’t miss a thing.
SEWE is the Big Charleston Event of the Month
If you’ve lived here for any amount of time, you already know: SEWE weekend is basically a Charleston holiday.
The Southeastern Wildlife Expo, happening February 13–15, takes over downtown with wildlife art, sporting exhibitions, conservation events, vendors, and plenty of people-watching. It’s one of those weekends where the city feels extra alive, and it’s a must if you’re looking for an authentic Charleston experience.
Even if you’re not into hunting or outdoor sports, SEWE is still worth it for the art displays alone. It’s classic Charleston, beautiful, busy, and uniquely Lowcountry.
Valentine’s Day in Charleston Just Hits Different
Charleston is already known for being one of the most romantic cities in the country, so February naturally brings all the Valentine’s Day energy. Whether you’re planning a fancy dinner downtown, a weekend getaway, or just an excuse to grab dessert and walk along The Battery, this is the time of year to lean into it.
And honestly… even if you’re not celebrating Valentine’s Day, it’s still a great excuse to treat yourself to a fun night out.
(Plus, Edwin McCain is playing on February 14, which feels very on-brand for Charleston romance.)
A Month for Theatre Lovers
Charleston’s performing arts scene is staying busy this month, and some great shows are coming through.
The Dock Street Theatre is performing Sense and Sensibility through February 8, making it the perfect winter evening activity, especially if you want something more classic and charming.
Later in the month, they kick off The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, starting February 25, and if you’ve never seen it, it’s hilarious and a guaranteed good time.
